Who came up with the phrase, “the waiting game”? A sicko, that’s who. I am currently playing the waiting game which feels a lot more like metaphorical fingernail pulling than Monopoly. In my last blog post, I shared the results of our Grecian fertility testing adventure. To summarize, they were not good. Mine and my husband’s cells are not compatible. The clinic had sent us these results directly, which was honestly great, the issue is that we have no idea what to do with them.
Those of you who have been through fertility know that waiting is a huge part of the process. The shots hurt, the medications suck, but waiting is arguably the most painful part of fertility. Waiting for results, waiting for your follicles to grow to that perfect length, waiting to see how many eggs were retrieved, how many made the freeze, waiting for the “yes” on the stick, and then waiting to find out why you have never seen the “yes” on the stick.
Good fertility Doctors are rare and highly overloaded. The last time we saw the Doctor, he had just come from an overnight shift at the hospital where he had delivered 13 babies. “Sorry, I’m a bit tired”, I’m going to take a leap and say that was a bit of an understatement. All of this adds up to you waiting. Every time we hit a new stage (feels more like a brick wall, but I’m trying to stay positive here), we have to wait months to see the Doctor to find out, what’s next? So that’s where we are, waiting. My Nana had a saying, “patience is a virtue, seldom found in a man, and never in a woman”. I am a lot like my Nana, she was spunky and fun, not a patient gal.
When we received the results, it was a lot to process, I most likely will not be able to carry our child. Logically, this leaves us with two options; surrogacy and adoption…. I think. Well, our wait to find out, is almost over, we are finally meeting with the Doctor next week. Whether he confirms our summation of the results I don’t know, but either way, I have been sent back to “GO” far too many times, and I am ready to move forward on the board.
